About Thomas J. Hogan, Sr

Thomas John Hogan, Sr. was born in Pawtucket in 1915 and graduated from Providence College at the age of 20 during the height of the Great Depression. He met Anne Josephine McDermott, “the prettiest girl I ever saw,” and they were married for 62 years. He was drafted and served as a cryptologist in the Army Air Force during World War II, leaving his wife and two young daughters, Catherine and Maureen, behind in Worcester, Massachusetts. When he came back from the Pacific, he put all his time and attention into his career and his family, which now included three more children, Thomas Jr., Susan and James. When he was in his 90s, he started to write non-fiction, what he called the stories of his life and events which impacted his life. This is his account of the Roaring Twenties. Thomas J. Hogan, Sr. died in 2009. (Editor’s note: Thank you to Susan Kimmey, daughter of Thomas J. Hogan, Sr., for sending me her father’s story.)
